Philadelphia police shot and injured an armed man in West Philadelphia on Monday night, authorities said.
Police were called to 56th Street and Haverford Avenue after someone reported seeing a man with a gun.
The man, whose name was not released, pointed the weapon at the responding officers, who then fired, police said, striking him in the arm and leg.
A gun was recovered at the scene, officials said.
The alleged gunman was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was in critical condition, police said.
