A seven-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after his foot got caught in an escalator at the Oxford Valley Mall in Langhorne Sunday, police said.
The boy, of Trenton, was stuck in the escalator near the Santa Claus display for about 20 minutes before emergency responders freed him. He was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, and airlifted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, said Middletown Police Sgt. Steve Forman.
The extent of his injury was not immediately known.
The boy, who was with his parents, became stuck in the escalator treadles around 4 p.m. A patron at the top of the escalator pressed the emergency stop button, Forman said.
In addition to police and mall security, Langhorne-Middletown and Fairless Hills fire departments and the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad responded.
The escalators are currently shut down and the state Department of Labor and Industry, which regulates escalators, will be inspecting them, Forman said.
