A 15-year-old boy found shot dead in North Philadelphia on Friday was identified Saturday as Xavier Stern, authorities said.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said Stern had been on probation for assault.

Chitwood said that Stern had not been seen since Nov. 22, when he left his home at 55 North State Road in Upper Darby following a family argument. Stern was on probation for assaulting a fellow school student and had been wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet as a requirement of probation, but he removed the bracelet following the argument, Chitwood said.

His family reported him missing Dec. 10.

Stern's body was discovered in the back of a 1998 Lincoln Town Car shortly after 7 p.m. Friday in the 2400 block of North Park Street. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was found by members of his family, who had lived in the neighborhood before moving to Upper Darby.
