Four men were fatally shot over the weekend in the first homicides of the new year, and two teenagers were critically wounded, Philadelphia police said Monday.
The first happened Wednesday night on the 5900 block of Manning Street in West Philadelphia, where 18th District officers responded to a report of a shooting and found Adidas Goode, 17, who had been shot in the forehead around 8 p.m.
Goode was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he remained on life support until Friday night, when he was pronounced dead.
Because Goode was shot on Dec. 30 but died on Jan. 1, his death will be added to 2016's homicide total. No arrests had been made, and police had not determined a motive in the case.
On Saturday night, 25th District police responding to an 8:16 p.m. report of a person with a gun found Caron Harper, 29, unresponsive on the 5000 block of Boudinot Street in Feltonville.
He had been shot several times, and was taken in a squad car to Temple University Hospital.
Harper, of Oxford Circle, was pronounced dead an hour later. No arrests had been made, and police had not determined a motive in the case.
On Sunday around 4:16 a.m., 24th District police found Terry Sims, 33, shot several times in the driver's seat of his car on the 2100 block of East Birch Street in Kensington. Sims, who lived a few blocks away, had been shot in the head, face and neck.
He was pronounced dead by medics about a half-hour later. No arrests had been made, and no motive had been determined in the case.
About an hour later, 25th District officers were called to the 100 block of West Wishart Street in Feltonville, where they found a 47-year-old man lying in the street. He had been shot in the back and right thigh. His name was not released.
A second victim, a 17-year-old boy, was found inside a house on the block, shot in the face. A 19-year-old who police said earlier had been armed and had been wearing a bulletproof vest was found shot in the back of the head.
All three were taken to Temple University Hospital, where the older man was pronounced dead. The teenage victims, whose names were not released, remained in critical condition Monday.
Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the homicide unit at 215-686-3334 or the department's anonymous tip line at 215-686-TIPS.
