Amtrak service between NYC, Boston suspended

A train derailment on a regional rail line north of New York City caused Amtrak to suspend its Northeast Regional and Acela Express lines north of Manhattan's Penn Station indefinitely, the train agency said.

A Metro North train near Fairfield, Conn., derailed Friday evening on a portion of rail that also serves Amtrak's trains that run between Boston and Washington, D.C., causing the shutdown to the north of New York City.

Service will continue to run between Washington, Philadelphia and New York City, Amtrak said in a statement at 7:30 p.m.

No timetable for restoration of service to Boston was given.
