A 13-year-old is facing charges after he allegedly took his father's SUV for a joyride Wednesday morning and crashed the vehicle into a telephone pole in Harrington, Del.
Police said the boy was driving the 2006 Toyota 4Runner west on Bloomfield Drive around 7:15 a.m., when he veered off the north side of the road and into a ditch. The vehicle's passenger's side then slammed into a utility pole, shearing it off at the base, according to investigators.
Police said the child continued to drive the 4Runner for a short distance before coming to a stop in the roadway.
He was rushed to Milford Memorial Hospital before being transferred to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the boy, whose identity was not released, was cited with careless driving, failing to remain in a single lane, driving without a valid license, and possessing neither insurance nor registration.
