Driver killed when car is hit by NJ Transit River Line train in Trenton

A man was killed in Trenton Saturday night and a woman was injured after a NJ Transit train crashed into a car.

Officials said the train was traveling north on the River Line when it shortly before 6 p.m. struck a car that was stuck on the tracks at Lalor Street and Route 129.

The car's driver, an adult man, was pronounced dead on the scene. A female passenger was hospitalized with injuries. Authorities have not yet released the dead man's identity, and there was not yet word on the passenger's condition Saturday evening.

According to authorities, 28 riders were on the train at the time of the accident. None of them were injured.

NJ Transit Police are investigating the accident, but officials did say the crossing gates were in a down position at the time of the impact.

The crash has caused hour-long delays on the River Line between Bordentown and Trenton.
