A man was critically injured after allegedly leading police on a chase, then crashing his car in the Somerton section of Northeast Philadelphia.
The 24-year-old man was being investigated by police in Bensalem Friday night, when he struck a patrol car and fled into Philadelphia, Philadelphia police said.
Driving south on the Roosevelt Boulevard, he ran a red light at the intersection of Haldeman Avenue around 11:15 p.m., causing a second car to hit his passenger-side front bumper and hood area, according to investigators.
The man then lost control of his vehicle, jumping the median and slamming into two trees before coming to a stop, police said.
Medics extricated him from the wreckage and took him to Aria Health Torresdale, where he was placed in critical condition. His identity was not released, and police did not disclose what touched off the initial investigation.
The driver of the other vehicle was treated for complaints of pain and released.
No charges had yet been filed Saturday, but an investigation into the incident remained ongoing.
