A fire in the Wister section of East Germantown sent a man to the hospital early Sunday.

Firefighters around 5 a.m. responded to the 200 block of East Ashmead Street for a report of flames shooting from the first floor of a two-story home.

The fire was placed under control about 15 minutes later.

Emergency crews rushed an adult male to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and placed in stable condition, according to the fire department.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Sunday.
