Police: Man killed during burglary attempt in Wissinoming

A man suffered fatal head injuries during an alleged burglary attempt on the 6100 block of Vandike Street in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

A man suffered fatal head injuries early Saturday during an alleged burglary attempt in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

The 23-year-old man broke into a garage behind a home on the 6100 block of Vandike Street shortly before 2 a.m. and was heard trying to steal tools, according to preliminary police information.

He was injured during an ensuing fight with the homeowner and his nephew, police said.

Medics pronounced the man dead shortly after 2 a.m. His identity was not released.

It wasn't immediately clear whether charges would be filed in connection with the incident. Police said an investigation remained ongoing.
