Shooting at Philadelphia homeless shelter leaves one dead, one injured

One person is dead and another injured after gunfire erupted at a Philadelphia homeless shelter early Sunday morning.

One employee is dead and another injured after gunfire erupted at a Philadelphia homeless shelter early Sunday morning.

Authorities say a man who had been evicted from the Station House Transitional Home on Broad Street in the Glenwood section of North Philadelphia returned around 6 a.m. Sunday morning and shot both workers.

Marie Nahikian, the Director of the Office of Supportive Housing, says the shooter gained access to the shelter with workers delivering food.

The man had returned to get his belongings, but apparently got into an argument with an employee, pulled out a gun and opened fire. Four Station House residents locked themselves in a bathroom after hearing the gunfire.

Police say one victim was dead on arrival, while another was shot in the hip and taken to Temple University Hospital.

Police haven't released any further information about the victims, and are currently searching for the gunman.

The Station House is an after-hours housing location for single men.
