A stray bullet from a shooting in Olney found its way into a man's bedroom and wounded him as he played Xbox Monday night, police said.
Shots rang out near the intersection of 3rd and Sparks streets around 7:45 p.m. and the man, who turned 27 on Sunday, felt "like a hammer" hit the back of his left shoulder, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The man then realized he was bleeding and had been shot. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where doctors found a bullet still lodged in his shoulder, Small said.
The man was listed in stable condition last night.
Small said the gunfire started about a block away from the man's house at 2nd and Sparks streets, and police found two cars that had been hit by bullets near 3rd and Sparks. The man was in the front bedroom of his childhood home, where he lives with his mother, when he was shot, Small said.
"He's lucky and unlucky," Small said. "He's lucky to be alive, but unlucky he got shot."
Small said there was a hole through the siding on the side of the house and through the drywall into the front bedroom where the bullet came through. A few more inches, Small said, and the bullet could have hit the man's neck, badly wounding him.
Police were still looking for whoever was responsible for the shooting late last night and said there were no other victims in the shooting.
