The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge was closed for about five hours overnight into Thursday morning after a ship hit a protective fender on one of the piers. No injuries were reported.

The bascule-style drawbridge was open for a southbound ship about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday when the vessel hit the wooden fender protecting a concrete-encased-in-granite pier and clipped a railing on the walkway, said Liz Verna, spokeswoman for the Burlington County Bridge Commission.

The bridge reopened to traffic about 3:25 a.m. Thursday, after engineers determined that it suffered no structural damage and would seat properly when closed, Verna said. The pedestrian walkway remains closed.
