Boy, 8, killed in Crescentville hit-and-run
The crash occurred at Whitaker Avenue and Herkness Street, police said. The boy was rushed to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and pronounced dead at 2:19 p.m.
An 8-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday afternoon in the city's Crescentville section, police said.
The crash occurred about 1:40 p.m. at Whitaker Avenue and Herkness Street, police said. A 1996 Honda was heading east on Whitaker swerving in and out of lanes when it sideswiped the passenger side of a 1989 Honda attempting to make a left turn. The newer Honda also hit a parked car.
Witnesses said the driver of the striking vehicle, a 34-year-old man, got out to inspect the damage to his own vehicle, then drove away. He later was located and taken into custody.
The boy was rushed by medics to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and pronounced dead at 2:19 p.m.
A 28-year-old driver was taken by medics to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The accident investigation was continuing, police said.
