Camden man wounded in gunfire exchange with police

The shooting occurred early Sunday morning.

A man was injured when he exchanged gunfire with police in Camden early Sunday morning.

At about 3:40 a.m., Camden County Metro police officers heard gunfire near Louis and Chestnut Streets. Following a witness' directions, they traveled to Sycamore Street, where they encountered the gunman, identified by police as Shlawrence Unique Ross, 37, of Camden.

Ross was shot while exchanging gunfire with the officers. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital and is being treated for his injuries.

The officers were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation.
