The chief of a Burlington County first-aid squad was indicted Thursday on charges of stealing more than $118,000 from his agency, prosecutors said.

Joseph J. Freed III, 54, of the 400 block of North Coles Avenue in Maple Shade, is accused of stealing $118,345.50 between April 2010 and February 2017 from the Maple Shade First Aid Squad.

He allegedly made withdrawals through ATMs from a bank account under his direct control and was the only member of the squad with access to the account. He used the money for personal expenses, prosecutors said.

Freed was charged with second-degree elements of computer theft, second-degree misapplication of entrusted property, and second-degree theft by deception.
