Police on Thursday identified two men who fatally shot each other Wednesday night in Chester.

Police were on patrol in the area of Ninth Street and Highland Avenue when they heard gunfire nearby about 7:15 p.m. The officers went to Ninth and Grace Streets, where they saw a red Pontiac speeding away and a man on the street. The man was identified as Robert Roberts, 47. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police later learned that the Pontiac took a second shooting victim to Crozer-Chester Medical Center. That man was identified as Kaneef Dennie, 23. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The motive for the shootout was unknown, police said.
