Police respond to Elkins Park apartment barricade scene

Police were on the scene of a barricade situation Thursday afternoon at an Elkins Park apartment complex.
Cheltenham Police said they responded to the incident at the Lynnewood Garden Apartments near the 1900 block of Ashbourne Road Thursday but could not provide any additional details on the incident until it was over.
Around 3 p.m., Cheltenham School District sent out an email notifying residents that police had shut down part of the complex "due to a serious emergency situation."
Students who live at the property were being dropped off at the Club at Lynnewood Gardens, the complex's community center, instead of their residences, according to the district.
