A 14-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday in the shooting of a 15-year-old acquaintance in West Philadelphia, police said.

The shooting was one of two on Monday to leave a teenage boy critically wounded.

The 14-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, has not been formally charged and police have not disclosed a reason for the shooting.

The suspect and the victim were with a third youth when the gunfire erupted about 11:30 p.m. on the 5400 block of Cherry Street, police said.

The victim was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition, officials said.

Police said officers learned the location of the suspect's home, went there, and arrested him.

In a separate shooting, around 12:30 a.m. Monday, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the head when gunfire erupted at Wishart Street and Park Avenue in North Philadelphia, police said. A 25-year-old man also was wounded.

The adult victim told police he had just been dropped off at the corner by a friend when he saw the teen ride up to the corner on a bicycle.

A short time later, the man said, he heard gunshots and saw another man who was standing under a tree run off toward Allegheny Avenue, according to police. Shot in both legs, the adult victim fell to the ground.

Arriving officers found the boy unresponsive nearby, police said. He had been hit by a bullet that entered his cheek and exited through the back of his head.

The teenager was last reported to be in critical condition at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. The wounded man was listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.
