Abortion doc still doesn’t have lawyer

Kermit Gosnell, the alleged abortion doctor from hell, is scheduled to appear in Courtroom 305 at the Criminal Justice Center on Wednesday.

Kermit Gosnell, the alleged abortion doctor from hell, is scheduled to appear in Courtroom 305 at the Criminal Justice Center on Wednesday.

The question is, will he finally have an attorney by his side?

As of Tuesday afternoon, Gosnell still had not retained a lawyer, almost a week after Common Pleas Court Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes told Gosnell and his wife, Pearl, that they would not be provided public defenders because the couple owned a significant number of properties.

District Attorney spokeswoman Tasha Jamerson said Hughes could appoint Gosnell and his wife an attorney if they again show up for court sans a lawyer.

In that scenario, the Gosnells would be billed after their trial is completed, at which time many of their assets would be liquidated, Jamerson said.

Hughes said Tuesday that during her 25 years on the bench, she has never encountered a situation like this.
