The boy, who was hearing-impaired, wandered away from family members who were inside the house at the time of the accident, police said.

He fell into the five-foot deep pool on Edgemont Street near Orthodox at about 8:20 p.m., said police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The boy's mother found him unresponsive in the pool and pulled him from the water.

A family member who is trained in CPR tried resuscitating the boy while the family waited for medics to arrive, police said.

The boy was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and was pronounced dead at 9:05 p.m.
