Crash with cop car jams I-95 South

An accident on I-95 involving a police cruiser brought southbound traffic to a standstill from Tinicum Township in Delaware County to the state border Tuesday night.

The accident happened around 10:20 p.m., and police and medics remained on the scene around 11:15 p.m. as the massive traffic jam continued to build.

State police in Delaware County said tow trucks were on the scene around 11:30 p.m. waiting to remove the damaged vehicles from the highway.

The far left southbound lane was open as of 11:30 p.m., allowing traffic to creep by the scene of the accident, police said.

Details on how many people were injured, and the severity of their injuries was not immediately available.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
