A 47-year-old cyclist was hospitalized after he was hit by a SEPTA trolley in Southwest Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The man was riding his bike on Island Avenue near Lindbergh Boulevard about 3:40 p.m. when he collided with an eastbound Route 36 trolley, said Andrew Busch, a SEPTA spokesman.

The cyclist was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Information on the man's condition was not immediately available, but Busch said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police and SEPTA officials are investigating the accident and were still on the scene at 6 p.m., Busch said.
