Burned body found under mattress in boardinghouse

Police are investigating the death of woman whose burned body was found Friday under a mattress in a West Philadelphia boardinghouse, police said.

A resident of the house on the 5100 block of Spruce Street made the discovery in the home's dining room about 6:50 a.m., police said.

Medics pronounced the woman dead at 7:07 a.m. Police said the unidentified woman was in her late 30s or early 40s.

There have been no arrests and detectives are trying to ascertain the strange circumstances surrounding the the woman's death.
