Police are looking for the driver of an SUV who fled after fatally hitting a cyclist who had stopped to repair his bike in Southwest Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police said the 32-year-old man was standing in the shoulder of the westbound lane on the 6200 block of Kingsessing Avenue, fixing his bicycle, when he was struck at about 5 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the vehicle, possibly a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee, briefly stopped, then continued driving west on Kingsessing Avenue, police said.

The victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with severe head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police have released surveillance video of the vehicle just before it hit the cyclist, and ask that anyone with information call police at 215-685-3180, 215-685-3181 or 215-686-8477 (TIPS). Tipsters can also send a text message to 773847 (PPDTIP).
