N.J. school lockdowns prompted by car lifted

Eastern High School and Kellman Brown Academy in Camden County were on lockdown for several hours this morning after a suspicious vehicle was found nearby.

Officers from the Gibbsboro police department found an unattended vehicle in a doctor's office parking lot on Route 561 at about 7:40 a.m., said Lt. Dennis Ober of the Voorhees Township police.

The car had ammunition and an empty gun holster in the back seat, and police couldn't locate the driver, he said.

The schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, and there are no specific threats against either school. Eastern High School is located about a half-mile from the car, and Kellman Brown Academy, a Jewish day school, is located about a quarter-mile away.

The Eastern Camden County Regional School District said the lockdown ended shortly after 11 a.m.

Police said this afternoon that the owner of the vehicle had been identified and contacted, but did not provide further details.

A bomb squad inspected the vehicle and found no explosive devices.
