Friend charged in murder of teen at Northeast Philly construction site

A childhood friend of the 19-year-old who was found slain at a Northeast Philadelphia construction site earlier this month has been charged in the killing, which police said was the result of a plot to steal a Playstation console.

Philadelphia police homicide Capt. James Clark said 19-year-old Malik Anderson has been charged in the Aug. 19 killing of Daquan Crump, also 19.

Crump was found fatally shot at about 5:30 a.m. at a construction site on the 10000 block of Northeast Avenue in Bustleton.

Clark said Anderson and Crump had plotted to steal another friend's Playstation 3 console. Crump carried out the plan himself, and Anderson killed his friend when he found out, Clark said.

"When Malik found out that Daquan had done this, he lured him to this abandoned construction site," Clark said.

Anderson shot Crump once in the back of the head, he said, then "stood over top of him and fired nine more times."

Police recovered the .22 caliber gun in Anderson's refrigerator, Clark said. He was taken into custody this morning.

Police had earlier called the slaying of the Wendy's worker "very personal."

Detectives are continuing to investigate the slaying, but believe Anderson was the only shooter.
