Man dies after fall from window near Temple
A young man believed to be visiting friends near Temple University died over the weekend after falling from an apartment-building window near the school's North Philadelphia campus.
Philadelphia police said the 21-year-old fell from a fifth-floor window at 1825 N. 10th St. at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday.
The man, whose name was not released, was not a Temple student, according to East Detectives.
Police said the man was alone in the apartment at the time. It was not known whether he jumped intentionally or the fall the was an accident.
The man was staying with two people in the building, which is located between West Berks Street and West Montgomery Avenue, just off Temple's campus, police said. One of the hosts attends Temple, and neither was home when the fall happened.
The man was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Medical Examiner's Office is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the fall.
The incident is at least the third fatal fall near Temple in the past year.
Last April, West Chester University student Ali Fausnaught fell to her death from a rooftop during an off-campus party. Fausnaught fell while posing for a picture, and her death was ruled accidental.
Temple canceled its annual Spring Fling in the wake of that incident, saying "high-risk" drinking was a serious concern. Fausnaught's death wasn't directly linked to alcohol, but students had been drinking at the party.
In September, Landon Nuss, a 19-year-old from Lancaster County, died after falling on a stairwell while visiting friends at the university. His death was also ruled an accident.
