Man struck by truck after car breaks down in Harrison Twp.
A man who was walking on the road after his car apparently broke down was struck by pickup truck and is in critical condition.
Harrison Township police said the 26-year-old man was walking in the eastbound lane on Mullica Hill Road at the Route 55 overpass when he was hit by a 2013 Ford F150 pickup truck just before 2:30 a.m.
The pedestrian's vehicle, a 2000 Honda Accord, was found parked and apparently disabled on the shoulder of Mullica Hill Road, about a quarter-mile east from the crash site.
The man was taken to Kennedy Hospital and later transferred to Cooper University Hospital, and was in critical condition, police said.
The pickup driver, a 53-year-old man from Glassboro, told police he had taken the off-ramp from Route 55 to Mullica Hill Road and was merging onto the road at the time of the crash.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
