Snow falls in Philadelphia region

Residents in parts of the Philadelphia region saw some spring snow Tuesday evening and overnight.

Most places in the immediate area saw less than an inch of snow, while areas further north reported amounts of up to two inches.

The National Weather Service said a trace amount of snow fell at Philadelphia International Airport.

Atco in Camden County had a half inch, while Mount Holly saw 0.1 inch.

Allentown tied its April 16 snowfall record with 0.3 inches, besting the trace amount that fell on today's date in 1978. Atlantic City tied its snowfall record for the date with a trace of snow.

The snowfall record in Philadelphia for today is 0.5 inches, set in 1888.

Further north, Lake Harmony in Carbon County and Tobyhanna in Monroe County both recorded 2 inches. Slatington in Lehigh County had 1.2 inches, while Freehold in Monmouth County and Highland Lakes in Sussex County both saw 1.5 inches.

Several inches of rain also fell around the region.

The highest rain totals locally included Souderton in Montgomery County, which saw 2.75 inches, and Glenmoore in Chester County, which had 2.36 inches, according to the weather service.

The storm also had strong winds, with gusts topping out at 41 mph at Philadelphia International Airport and reaching above 50 in several places, including Port Richmond and Glassboro.

In Philadelphia, the record for the latest spring snowfall is April 27, set in 1967, according to weather service data. The city ususually sees its last snow by March 17.

Last year, the last snowfall occurred on March 25.

The weather service says today is expected to be sunny and breezy, with a high temperature of 51 degrees.
