National Weather Service: Snow, rain headed to region Saturday

Snow-lovers disappointed that Philadelphia largely missed out on the white stuff during a storm earlier this week may be in luck.

Forecasters are calling for a few inches of snow to fall in the region on Saturday. Within the city of Philadelphia, meteorologists expect one to two inches in the morning before the precipitation turns to a mix of rain and snow.

"With this system, like the past few we had, they are allowing some warm air above the surface," National Weather Service meteorologist Greg Heavener said in describing the likelihood of rain on the backend of the storm. "It's not going to miss us, just depends on which type of precipitation comes with it."

The system moving in "has an increasing potential to bring a quick widespread accumulating snowfall to much of the area," the weather service says.

Forecasters say the snow will be followed by a cold front moving through the area next week. High temperatures in the low to mid-30s are expected.
