Two killed in head-on collision on I-95

A two-vehicle crash shut down a portion of I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia Sunday morning for about an hour.

Two people were killed in a head-on collision on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia on Sunday morning, including the driver of a vehicle that was traveling north in the highway's southbound lanes, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at 7:05 a.m. near the Woodhaven Road exit, state police said. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a Philadelphia man whose name police did not release, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle were taken for treatment to area hospitals, where one of the passengers was pronounced dead.

The driver and passengers of the second vehicle were from the Bronx, police said. Their names were not disclosed.

All southbound lanes in the area were closed to traffic for about an hour following the crash, police said. Police ask that anyone with further information about the collision call the state police Trevose Barracks at 215-942-3900.
