Dresher Inn, liquor license to be auctioned this month

The historic Dresher Inn and its liquor license will be auctioned Jan. 18.

The inn was built of stone and timber sometime between the mid-1600s and the mid-1700s, and various additions and changes were made over the years, auctioneer Omar Bounds said. The property, in Upper Dublin, last changed hands in 1927, when it was deeded for $1 to Fred and Catherine DeElse as a wedding gift. The DeElses operated a tavern out of the house from 1935 until the early 1990s; the family still owns the property.

The inn will be auctioned with restaurant equipment and supplies. The rights to its liquor license will be auctioned separately. Bounds estimates the Dresher Inn's liquor license will be worth at least $250,000, but he has no estimate on the value of the real estate.

The inn is listed on Montgomery County's inventory of historic properties, which means it can be modified but never destroyed. - AP
