As tax votes loom, Corzine scraps overseas trip

TRENTON - With legislative votes pending on property-tax reforms, Gov. Corzine has canceled a planned trip to Israel and the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Switzerland.

Corzine was slated to leave today for the weeklong trip.

But on Monday, the Senate is to consider several measures aimed at cutting property taxes. It's also scheduled to vote on bills on Thursday.

"It's all about the details now, and as pressing as the need is to grow our economy by attracting more business, the governor felt that postponing this trip to continue tackling property taxes would be the most appropriate use of his time," Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said. - AP
