EASTON, Pa. - The wife of a police officer fatally shot by another officer has filed a $20 million lawsuit alleging that her husband's death was a result of a lack of safety procedures and discipline in the Easton Police Department.
The lawsuit by Officer Jesse Sollman's wife, Carin Sollman, alleged that as a result, the officer who fired the shot, Matthew Renninger, was "reckless, grossly negligent and deliberately indifferent" to Sollman's safety. Sollman was killed in a hall after he and Renninger returned from a training exercise.
Besides Renninger, the lawsuit names city and police officials as defendants. A state grand jury recommended that no charges be filed against Renninger, but criticized a lack of policies and procedures in the department. - AP
