A member of an outlaw motorcycle gang was arrested yesterday and charged with murdering a Gloucester City woman last year, prosecutors said.

Brian O. Springer, 44, of Pennsauken, rides with the Wheels of Soul, a national motorcycle club with chapters in Camden and Philadelphia. He was held last night in the Camden County jail after failing to post $750,000 bail, accused of bludgeoning Lisa Hoopes with a hammer on March 18, 2006, in a Gloucester City apartment. Hoopes, 43, was found dead two days later of stab wounds and multiple head injuries.

Two others were charged with murder last year. Karen A. Sluzalis, 42, of Pennsauken, allegedly hit Hoopes over the head with a bottle and stabbed her repeatedly. According to court documents, John W. Creamer III, 41, who lived in the apartment, told police that he had delivered the fatal blow, "stomping" Hoopes in the face to "put her out of her misery."

The three allegedly agreed to kill Hoopes because they believed she had stolen money from Sluzalis, according to court documents. - Sam Wood
