Camden City Council last night approved $5 million in funding for the Campbell Soup Co.'s expansion and office-park proposal.
The city planning board gave the company a green light this week for a $72 million, 80,000-square-foot building and an office park on the site of the historic Sears building on Admiral Wilson Boulevard. The city's Economic Recovery Board is providing a $2 million grant, and $3 million will come through a state Environmental Infrastructure Transit loan to the city.
The project could hinge on lawsuits threatened by activist Frank Fulbrook and former Sears building owner Mark Willis. They want to block demolition of the Sears building because of its historic significance.
