A fire at a Huntingdon Valley high-rise apartment building forced about 200 senior citizens out of their homes for five hours yesterday afternoon and evening, fire officials said.

All but the second-floor residents of the Gloria Dei Towers senior apartment complex, on Welsh Road in Lower Moreland Township, were allowed back into their apartments by 9 p.m. last night following the 4 p.m. fire, said Deputy Chief Ron Herwig of the Huntingdon Valley Fire Company.

Four residents were treated for minor injuries, Herwig said. The cause of the fire, which was confined to one apartment, was under investigation. Second-floor residents either stayed with family or at local hotels last night.
