An unidentified teenage boy was struck and killed by a freight train in the Bustleton section of Philadelphia shortly before midnight Friday, police said.
The boy apparently was sitting on the train tracks near Evergreen Way, according to Sgt. Lawrence Ritchie of the Accident Investigation Division. The incident was reported at 11:50 p.m., he said.
A CSX train with container cars was traveling northbound and approaching the underpass where Bustleton Avenue crosses the tracks when the incident occurred, Ritchie said.
"It's still pending why he didn't get out of the way," Ritchie said of the teenager, who was pronounced dead at the scene.- Walter F. Naedele
