Husband, 2 others arrested in Egg Harbor slaying

The husband of a woman who was shot and killed moments after she pulled into the driveway of her Egg Harbor Township home last year has been arrested along with two other people, authorities said. Gerardina Garcia, 43, was shot four times on April 20, 2006, but managed to call 911 and hand the phone to her 8-year-old son in the back seat before she died. Yesterday's arrests follow an 18-month investigation that involved two states, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, the Egg Harbor Police Department and federal agencies, according to a news release from Atlantic County Prosecutor Theodore F.L. House. Fabio Garcia, who is Gerardina's husband, and Ricky Irizarry of Queens and Schenectady, N.Y., were each charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder for hire, authorities said, with their bails set at $1.5 million and $1 million, respectively. Mirtha Gomez, of Jackson Heights, N.Y., was charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception greater than $75,000 and uttering a forged instrument - an insurance document that belonged to Gerardina Garcia. Her bail was set at $75,000. Fabio Garcia also faces the same conspiracy charge. - AP
