Effort set to raise money for Rutgers stadium

TRENTON - Gov. Corzine and State Sen. Ray Lesniak said yesterday that they would lead a campaign to raise money to expand Rutgers University's football stadium.

They said they already had identified $3 million in seed donations. Lesniak (D., Union) is a Rutgers alumnus.

The university's Board of Governors put off a vote on a stadium-expansion proposal this week after Corzine expressed reservations about floating a $30 million state loan for the project. The addition of 12,000 seats, luxury boxes and a dining club to the Piscataway stadium is expected to cost $120 million.
