Police seek SUV in Fishtown hit-and-run

Philadelphia police were looking for a dark SUV with front-end damage in the hit-and-run accident that has left the leader of a charity organization in critical condition.

Ira Shaffer, 57, was fighting for his life at Hahnemann University Hospital after being hit outside a post office Wednesday evening in Fishtown.

Shaffer is president of the Pennsylvania and Delaware chapter of Operation Homefront, a nationwide organization that supports U.S. soldiers and their families. He was attempting to mail envelopes for the organization when he was struck in front of the post office at Frankford and Columbia Avenues. Anyone with information is asked to call Philadelphia police at 215-685-3180.
