Mother who killed sons will be treated, not jailed

LANCASTER - A Lancaster County woman who suffocated her 2-year-old son and drowned her 4-year-old son will be sent to a psychiatric facility instead of prison.

Meghan Lippiatt, 32, of Mount Joy, was sentenced Monday in the April 2004 deaths.

Assistant District Attorney Kelly Sekula suggested Lippiatt could have faked her symptoms. A 911 call saying she "did something really, really bad" is evidence that Lippiatt knew right from wrong, Sekula said.

Lancaster County Judge James Cullen found Lippiatt not guilty by reason of insanity. She will be held in the county prison pending a hearing to determine her treatment.
