Aldan woman killed in home; Chester man slain

Aldan police are questioning a person of interest in the killing of a 44-year-old woman discovered in her home Wednesday afternoon.

Family members called police when they had not heard from Patricia McCaughan, of the 100 block of Rively Avenue, and were unable to enter the home. Police forced an entrance and found her body in a sitting position in a first-floor family room. An autopsy ruled that she had been beaten to death. Sgt. Michael Camarota said police have a man in custody and are questioning him in connection with the death. He has not been arrested. Camarota said police did not recover a weapon. Camarota said McCaughan's husband died a few years ago. He said she grew up in Delaware County and has family in the Collegeville area.

Also, a 25-year-old Chester man was shot and killed outside a local bar yesterday. Just after midnight, police were called to the Rainbow Inn at 601 Kerlin St. and found Kevin Harris, who had a gunshot wound, lying on the sidewalk. An unidentified person was trying to give him aid. Police said Harris, who lived in the neighborhood, had been inside the bar and was shot seconds after he left. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
