Newlyweds killed while crossing Burlco highway

A newlywed couple were killed Wednesday night in Burlington County as they attempted to cross an unlit highway, police said.

Oscar Ramos Cortez, 27, and Silvia Mejia Deolores, 19, of Princeton, were struck about 5:30 p.m. on Route 206 in Pemberton Township by a 2004 Audi sedan. The couple, married earlier this year, were making a delivery to a Mexican grocery store on the opposite side of the highway, police said.

Cortez was killed instantly. Deolores was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Audi, Vladimir Senko of Staten Island, N.Y., was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. The investigation is continuing, and witnesses are asked to call police at 609-894-3352.
