A.C.-bound train strikes SUV, killing driver

A train bound for Atlantic City crashed into an SUV in Camden County yesterday, killing the vehicle's driver and causing delays for NJ Transit passengers, authorities said.

Edgar Forvour, 87, of Atco, attempted to beat the train at the crossing shortly after 12:30 p.m. at the Atco Avenue crossing in Waterford Township, said NJ Transit spokesman Dan Stessel. Witnesses said the SUV swerved around the closed crossing gate; as it passed over the tracks, the 11:40 a.m. train out of Philadelphia plowed into the vehicle, Stessel said.

No injuries were reported to the train's 62 passengers, who were transferred to buses for the remainder of their trip, Stessel said.
