State senator accused of perjury to seek new term

GREENSBURG, Pa. - State Sen. Robert Regola, who is accused of perjury, will seek reelection, he announced Wednesday in an e-mail to the media.

Regola (R., Westmoreland) will stand trial on charges he lied under oath at a coroner's inquest into the death of a neighbor who used the senator's gun to kill himself.

The coroner has determined 14-year-old Louis Farrell committed suicide in July 2006. The teenager's family rejects that finding.

Regola also faces charges of illegal possession of a weapon by a minor. The lawmaker's son, 17-year-old Bobby Regola, has been found delinquent on charges he illegally possessed his father's handgun, which was stored in his bedroom.
