Ex-youth minister guilty in sex case

Paul D. Glover acknowledged having a 2-year affair with a girl, starting when she was 15.

A former youth minister at the Church of Christ in Washington Township has pleaded guilty to sexual assault after acknowledging a sexual relationship he had with a congregant that began when she was 15 years old, authorities said yesterday.

Paul D. Glover, 33, a former Glassboro resident who now lives in Hattiesburg, Miss., was charged March 9 with having a two-year relationship with the girl that ended shortly before his arrest.

The girl was a member of a church youth group Glover supervised. He had held the youth minister post since 2000.

Glover and the girl had encounters in a number of municipalities in Gloucester County, including in his home, according to an investigation conducted by the major crimes unit of the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

The relationship came to light after the teen felt ill, tested positive for pregnancy, and informed her parents.

Glover has been free on $150,000 bail since his arrest and has now pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree sexual assault, authorities said.

Under a plea agreement, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office will recommend sentencing Glover to five years in New Jersey state prison.

Under state law, he would have to serve 85 percent of the prison term before he would be eligible for parole.

Superior Court Judge Walter L. Marshall Jr. accepted the plea from Glover. The judge did not set a sentencing date, pending an evaluation of Glover at the New Jersey Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel.
