Man who killed parents stays in mental hospital

ALLENTOWN - A judge ruled Monday that a man who killed his parents in 1995 will remain involuntarily committed to a mental hospital.

Jeffrey Howorth was 17 when he shot and killed George and Susan Howorth with a .22-caliber rifle. Howorth fled in the family car. He ran out of gas in Missouri and was apprehended.

A jury found Howorth not guilty by reason of insanity, and he has been committed to Norristown State Hospital since October 1995.

Lehigh County Court Judge William Ford conducted an annual review of Howorth's status and, with the agreement of the prosecution and defense, ruled that Howorth will remain committed to the hospital.
