Two female students reported being raped in Kutztown University residence halls early Sunday morning, a university spokesman said.
Although the two incidents happened about an hour apart, they were unrelated, Matt Santos said.
In the Old Main building, the woman alleges being attacked by a male student she had signed in to the all-female dormitory section.
The male has not been arrested, and campus police are investigating, Santos said yesterday.
In the second case, a female student was attacked in a stairwell by an unidentified man whom she described as a somewhat unshaven, brown-haired white male of college age.
No weapon was reported to have been involved, Santos said.
Both women were treated at a local hospital, which then contacted campus authorities.
The Berks County campus sent text messages and e-mails to students and staff to alert them about the incidents, urging caution and vigilance, Mantos said.
Under a pilot program, a new dormitory opening in the fall will be the university's first to have security cameras.
Front desks at residence halls are manned round-the-clock, and the campus also offers 24-hour escorts by campus police, he said.
During 2007, three rapes were reported on campus.
Another attack that made headlines, the beating death of Kutztown University student Kyle Quinn of Warminster, happened in the town of Kutztown, not on campus.
Two brothers and another man, none of them university students, were arrested for what police said was a random attack.
